Sometimes, we forget to look after our bodies during our busy schedules. This is a common mistake that many people make, but who can blame us? We spend our days dedicating most of our time to our jobs with little time to think about anything other than work. However, at some point, we have to pause and seriously think about our health. You might be surprised to see all the signs you have been ignoring, as well as the source of the stress, which in some cases could be your career.
Here’s how to tell whether your job is contributing to your bad health:
1. Too Much Overtime
Yes, there is such a thing as too much overtime! Many people fall into this trap, pushing themselves to the limit, only to realise later on that they suffer from sleep-deprivation or overexertion of the body. Take note of how much time you put into work and don’t forget to get enough rest.
2. Commuting
Believe it or not, commuting is a great contributor to your stress levels and exhaustion. At times, I personally end up feeling more tired as a result of commuting, rather than from the actual work I do throughout the day. So I, for one, know that this could be extremely hard on your body and even on your brain. This is why it is so much better to find work closer to home.
3. Lack of Movement
This specifically applies to people who sit in front of a computer all day. Sitting all day can not only hurt your back, but also cause some serious tension in your neck and shoulders. Always get enough exercise to avoid any long-term back problems and health issues.
4. Lack of Sleep
The day seem to drag by when you don’t get enough sleep. That’s one of the smallest issues that comes with a lack of sleep. The bigger issue is that your body will give in, causing you to pass-out, which can be very dangerous. Exhaustion can be very fatal to one’s health and without sufficient sleep, some say you might age faster!
5. High Stress
High stress levels are something you want to avoid at all costs. It has the power to put you in hospital for weeks on end and in some cases, even cause death. High stress can be caused by worrying too much, not being able to control your emotions, lack of exercise and even an unhealthy diet. High stress levels can give you all sorts of skin problems too.
Life gets really busy and in between the hustle and bustle, we need to ensure that our health and bodies are taken care of. A healthy diet, regular exercise and enough sleep can help you tremendously in your professional life.
